Yea, I played DM for a very long time, have not played it in years now. There's other Cruisers with better range and shell flight characteristics for that kind of work. Even old a*** Zao is way better in open water, ranged gunfighting than Des Moines. But there's Cruisers way better for that long range fighting than DM ever could dream of. I get if the Cruiser player thinks playing up front like that is too dangerous, and wants to hang back. My friend played her a lot too and any time he saw a Spotter DM he always broke out laughing. When I started seeing Spotting Aircraft DMs I shook my head. You support your DDs and they know they're not out there alone, they can do some serious good work. I menaced the reds' Destroyers and helped clear the caps.

Something from years ago when I played Des Moines and I was the reason why our team won. Anything to affect the DD and Cap situation. But you do it right you could swing games. I love that ship but I played her to contest caps and help the DDs. Rarely ever see a DM anywhere near a cap anymore. They don't care if they can hit anything, they are just afraid to be shot at. Yea DM guns are useless as can be at anything over 15km.
